Rod Babers

SELECTED BY CINCINNATI , ROUND 4, PICK 27, OVERALL PICK 123
DB | (5-8, 192, 4.48) | Texas
By Pro Football Weekly

Notes: Played in 11-of-13 games (missed two games with a sprained ankle) as a freshman in 1999 and started twice in the nickel. Starter in 2000, '01 and '02. Has made 38 consecutive starts. Had 28 tackles and broke up one pass in '99; had 21-10 with two interceptions in 2000; and had 40-17-1 in '01. Last year, he posted 46 tackles, three tackles for loss, two interceptions, one forced fumble and one blocked kick.

Positives: Good in man-to-man coverage. Good ball reaction, range and catchup speed. Good athletic ability. Better in press than zone coverage. Tough. Turns smoothly with no lost time. Gets a good jump, has good movement skills and change of direction.

Negatives: Lacks size, height and strength in press coverage. Does not have good hands and drops passes. Not a good tackler in run support. Not aggressive. Does not play the deep ball well or have good ball skills. Drag down and angle tackler. Gets on his heels at times in backpedal. Plays to strength.

Summary: Bump corner whose stock was higher at the start of the '02 season and could still surprise.
