Jason Goss

CB | (5-10, 183, 4.67) | TCU
By Pro Football Weekly

Notes: Redshirted in 1998. Started every game in '99 and '01 and the first five in '00, when he missed the last seven games after injuring his knee in practice. Had 31 tackles, seven passes broken up and one interception in '99; 16-4-2 in '00; and 61-24-3 in '01, when he also returned 25 punts for 275 yards and one TD. Had a major knee injury in '00. May have been babying himself and his knee in '01 after major knee injury. Was more aggressive vs. both the run and pass in '99 and '00 before he got hurt. Started all 12 games in '02, including bowl game, making 35 tackles, five for loss, one sack, eight interceptions and breaking up 24 passes. Returned 24 punts for 375-1.

Positives: Good leader, smart and alert. Can return punts. Team's best defensive back and assigned to cover the top wide receiver. Has very strong legs, ball skills and body control. Instinctive. Good athletic ability. Shows some vision on punt returns.

Negatives: Not a great tackler or coming up in run support. Had major knee surgery in 2000. Slow to close on the ball and a bit gun-shy since injury. Shuffles and bails, is slow to react and is questionable turning from his backpedal. Loses a step in transition. Plays too loose and slow to redirect. Does not like contact and is a drag-arm tackler. Lacks size and is not very physical. Must improve his speed.

Summary: Big playmaker who is a bit undersized for a corner but an excellent returner. Quieted concerns about his knee with a strong senior season.
