Eric Meekins

FS | (6-1, 190, 4.55) | Clemson
By Pro Football Weekly

Notes: High school running back who went to Fort Union Military before coming to Clemson in 1999. Played in 12 games at safety-linebacker and on special teams in both '99 and 2000. Started nine times at free safety in '01 and every game in '02. Had 19 tackles, broke up one pass and intercepted another in '99. Had 16-2-0 in 2000; 70-3-0 in '01; and 92-5-1 in '02.

Positives: Has good size, is tall and jumps well (recorded team-best 39½ vertical jump in '01). Makes some good hits and tackles and has decent range in coverage.

Negatives: Is not overly instinctive or reactive. Does not make enough plays or enough plays on the ball. Can't cover man-on-man and is in trouble if he has to guard the slot receiver. Late to break down and as a result misses a lot of tackles.

Summary: The kind of player who looks better than he plays and could come on if the light goes on for him. Does not see the big picture at this point.
