By Pro Football WeeklyNotes: Redshirted in 1998 and has started ever since. Second-team All-Conference free safety in '99 and a first-team choice in 2000 who tied for the Western Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year award with Idaho's Will Beck. Moved to strong safety-rover in '01 and had a team-best 87 stops while winning All-WAC honors. Also was an All-WAC safety in '02. Mikell had 99 tackles, nine tackles for loss, two sacks and two picks in '99. Registered a career-best 118-8-3-0 with 11 passes broken up in 2000; 87-7-2-2-10 in '01; and 97-5½-4-1-11 in '02.Positives: Top college player and competitor whom the coaches really like. Is a very tough, competitive player who has good instincts and adequate speed and range. Right now he is better versus the run than the pass and is a good hitter and tackler. Plays hard and has been very durable.Negatives: Is small and short for a safety and is more of a hitter than a ballhawk. Lacks great top-end speed and range for a safety and does not play the ball too well. Not quick or sudden enough to play cornerback.Summary: A really good college player who may not fit the NFL game very well.* Player biographies are provided by Pro Football Weekly.
