Lakendrick Jones

DE | (6-2, 275, 4.95) | South Carolina State
By Pro Football Weekly

Notes: Did not play in 1998. Backup offensive lineman and tight end in '99. Played both defensive end and tight end in 2000 and '01. Had 19 tackles, seven tackles for loss and four sacks in 2000; and had 21-5-1 in '01, when he also caught three passes for 40 yards and a touchdown. Played just defensive end in '02, when he played in all 12 games, and had 53 tackles (28 solos) with 13 tackles for loss (75 yards worth), 10 sacks, two passes broken up, eight QB hurries and three forced fumbles.

Positives: Good effort player with long, 34¼-inch arms. Is OK at the point of attack and has OK football intelligence. Has improving closing speed. Starting to develop pass-rush skills. Good effort, character and versatility. Will compete and is hungry for the NFL.

Negatives: A little stiff in the lower body. Lacks great football intelligence and intensity. Brings ferocity to defense. Lacks quick-twitch, quickness and lateral movement and is slow to shed. Can be tied up. Has average change of direction, is not quick or sudden and lacks top speed for a rush end. Responded well to a new coaching staff in the spring. Plays with no bend and doesn't finish plays.

Summary: A raw, developmental defensive end who is going to be drafted late or snatched up early in free agency.
