By Pro Football WeeklyNotes: Redshirted in 1998. Missed the start of the '99 season with an ankle injury but came back to see limited action in eight games. Top backup in 2000 until he hurt his foot with four regular-season games left. Top backup last fall, when he got his first four starts. Generally played behind two '01 first-round picks (John Henderson and Albert Haynesworth) and was the team's third defensive tackle. Had four stops in '99; 22 tackles, three tackles for loss and 1½ sacks in 2000; and 28 tackles in '01. Started 12 games at left defensive tackle in '02 (including the Peach Bowl), when he had 41-4-2 and three forced fumbles. Missed one game with a neck strain. Had his knee scoped in December. Was the third defensive tackle in rotation, and there was very little dropoff from the two starters. Did not run or participate in position workouts at the Scouting Combine.Positives: Has good athletic ability, first-step quickness, change of direction and football intelligence. Keeps his head up, locates the ball and flows with a feel for the blockers. Has good quickness, agility and balance, is aggressive and plays hard with good explosion off the line. Moves well laterally and can slip and avoid blockers. Is strong at the point of attack and in using his hands to shed. Gets a good rush off the edge and is explosive, quick and athletic. Displays pretty good levered strength.Negatives: Had mostly backup sack totals and did not register a sack in '01. Did not have great production. Got too heavy and lazy. Does not get a good push. Lacks a burst to make plays as a pass rusher.Summary: Above-average athlete who does a lot of things good, but nothing great.* Player biographies are provided by Pro Football Weekly.
