David Upchurch

DT | (6-3, 283, 5.1) | West Virginia
By Pro Football Weekly

Notes: All-State defensive end and tight end in high school. Redshirted in 1998. Top backup in '99. Started every game in 2000 and '01. Had 15 tackles, one tackle for loss and one sack in '99; 40-5-3 and an interception in 2000; and 66-14-4-0 in '01. Started every game in '02 and had 40-14½-3-0 and was named second-team All-Big East.

Positives: Best technician on the defensive line. Is a dedicated offseason worker who makes himself better each year. Has football intelligence and intangibles and is durable and dependable.

Negatives: Lacks athletic ability, foot quickness and playing strength and will struggle to gain control at the point of attack. Could use his hands better and will get too tall and stiff at times. Narrows base on contact and is on the ground a lot.

Summary: Physical limitations will prevent him from being drafted, unless he draws interest in rounds Six and Seven.
