Melvin Williams

SELECTED BY MINNESOTA , ROUND 5, PICK 23, OVERALL PICK 155
DE | (6-2, 269, 4.8) | Kansas State
By Pro Football Weekly

Notes: Fifth-year senior who has improved every year. Redshirted in 1998. Had six stops, three tackles for loss and two sacks in '99; 13-6-41 in 2000; and 33-16-81 in '01. Started four of 13 games and finished with 37-7½-5 in '02.

Positives: Very quick player who runs well and can be disruptive. Explosive hitter with an explosive first step and enough speed to close on the quarterback. Has the look of a natural rusher who is best off the edge and continually beats the tight end. Doesn't stay blocked long and rarely gives up. Has a polished repertoire of pass-rush moves, including swim, counter, slap, rip and spin. Possesses the quick-twitch movements scouts look for.

Negatives: Lacks bulk strength inside and will get overpowered and mauled at times. May need more order and direction in his life. Can act like a big kid. Has a small bubble butt. Needs more reps.

Summary: Offers NFL teams nothing more than good to good-plus pass-rush skills.
