Lamarcus Mcdonald

LB | (6-1, 229, 4.9) | TCU
By Pro Football Weekly

Notes: Did not play in 1999. Played in 11-of-12 games in 2000, missing one game due to academics, and recorded 33 tackles, three tackles for loss and one sack. Started at inside linebacker from Game Two on in '01 and was a true impact player, getting in on 80 tackles, including 25 for loss, and six sacks. Started all 11 games in '02, recording 113-28-8, with three forced fumbles and four passes broken up. Was named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year. Looked like a rabbit playing at 209 pounds at the Senior Bowl, but felt he needed to add 20 pounds to play linebacker in the NFL and has lost some speed and quickness.

Positives: Big playmaker. Flies around the field with excellent lateral movement and change of direction. Passionate player who is very productive and has great football intelligence. Natural player who can be quick. Keys and diagnoses plays. Very aggressive. Attacks and takes on block. Works through tackles. Has a knack for slipping blocks. Very strong for his size and plays bigger and faster than he is. Has fine instincts. Great special-teams player and great covering kicks.

Negatives: Lacks height, weight and speed. Marginal student who didn't like school. Lacks consistent burst, size and acceleration. Street guy who does not use his hands well to shed blocks but tries to get by on athletic ability. Needs to get better hitting and shedding. Freelances and plays his own defense. Not a major factor in coverage. Doesn't have great football intelligence.

Summary: Slow 40 time hurt his stock, but he plays faster than he tested and should be an immediate contributor on special teams.
