SELECTED BY BALTIMORE , ROUND 2, PICK 19, OVERALL PICK 51
LB | (6-1, 251, 4.77) | Kansas State
By Pro Football WeeklyNotes: Did not run the 40 at the Scouting Combine. Forty time is from Spring 2002. Came to Kansas State in 1999 and was redshirted. In 2000, played in all but one game and started the final six games of the season, including the Cotton Bowl. Was the Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year with 38 tackles, six tackles for loss and three passes broken up. Started 10-of-11 games in '01 and recorded 68-11-3 and three sacks and was an academic All-Big 12 selection. Started each of K-State's 12 games in '02 and had 104-14-4 and five sacks. Left school with one year of eligibility remaining.Positives: Has very good size and decent strength. Stands out with his mobility and physical play at times. Is instinctive, reads and reacts well and is able to shed blockers. Can make the play in the open field. Is a weight man who also throws the shot and discus. Big hitter who gives good effort and pursuit.Negatives: Doesn't have great sideline-to-sideline speed and it shows. When playing in space can get lost. Lacks great hips and doesn't cover well. Limited explosiveness. Is not a top athlete.Summary: Pierce is likely to get drafted in the first two rounds after a solid junior season, but he must improve in pass coverage to avoid being a situational linebacker.* Player biographies are provided by Pro Football Weekly.
