Shawn Price

OLB | (6-1, 225, 4.6) | North Carolina State
By Pro Football Weekly

Notes: Los Angeles Valley Community College transfer. Played in nine games at defensive end in 2001, missing two with a high-ankle sprain but still posted 20 tackles, including 10 for loss, and six sacks. Started nine of the 13 games he played in he was suspended for the game vs. Duke in '02. Had 32-12-9, three forced fumbles and two fumbles recovered. Strongest player on the team in terms of overall weight-lifting numbers and has run in the 4.4 range.

Positives: Has quickness and speed, explodes off the line of scrimmage and up the field. Is a good pass rusher who can close on the quarterback. Has the suddenness scouts like in pure, pass-rushing defensive ends. Has outstanding speed and athletic ability. Great workout numbers.

Negatives: Can get drilled at the point of attack. Needs to be protected by defensive tackles to get free. Once offensive linemen get their hands on him, it's over. Even chip-blocks from running backs will knock him off course. Does not have the size to be an NFL defensive end and lacks experience and cover skills to be a linebacker in most systems. Was a poor practice player whose instincts and football intelligence have been questioned. Has asthma.

Summary: NFL chance will only come if he finds the perfect team and opportunity.
