LB | (5-11, 229, 4.77) | Tennessee
By Pro Football WeeklyNotes: Redshirted in 1998. Coming off the bench, he had 13 stops in '99 and four tackles in seven games in 2000 before injuring his knee in the South Carolina game and undergoing season-ending surgery. Split time in '01, starting 10-of-12 games and collecting 51 stops, five tackles for loss and a pair of sacks. Showed major improvement from 2000 to 2001. Moved to middle linebacker in the spring of 2002. For the '02 season, started Games 1-4 and 10-12 at middle linebacker and Games 5-9 at weak-side linebacker. Had 119 tackles (including 14 in Peach Bowl). Led team with 9½ tackles for loss. Had five sacks, seven passes broken up and two interceptions.Positives: Good worker who plays hard. Tough and aggressive. Better in the box than outside. Strength is taking on the inside run. Takes a good first step and plays angles. Good football intelligence. Showed improvement in '02. Has gotten bigger and stronger.Negatives: Bites on play-action and struggles to shed. Grab tackler who doesn't bring his feet with him and wrap up. Does not have good hips and agility for man-to-man coverage. Lacks a good feel for zone coverage, plays tall and struggles to shed, redirect and change directions. Limited athletic ability, size and speed. Not very nifty. Slow to read and react.Summary: Undersized, productive inside 'backer who may have to earn his way into the league on special teams.* Player biographies are provided by Pro Football Weekly.
