Sam Williams

SELECTED BY DALLAS , ROUND 3, PICK 20, OVERALL PICK 83
LB | (6-4, 240, 4.59) | Fresno State
By Pro Football Weekly

Notes: Redshirted in 1998. Backup and special-teams player in '99 and 2000. Started the last six games in '01. Had eight tackles, two tackles for loss and one sack in '99. Registered 16-1-1 in 2000 and 55-4-2, with three passes broken up, one interception, a blocked extra point and a blocked punt in '01. Missed time in '02 after suffering a separated shoulder against Oregon State but registered 60 tackles, six for loss and one interception.

Positives: Tall, rangy athlete who has gained 45 pounds since he enrolled. Jumper on field goals and extra points who can sky. Has the size and athleticism for the next level. Played the best football of his career after coming back from his shoulder injury. May be starting to see the big picture.

Negatives: Still needs to do a better job using his hands to shed blocks. Will play too upright and lose his strength and leverage. Cannot turn his hips and run deep with a running back or speedy tight end.

Summary: Seemed to be coming on at the end of the '02 season, and ran very well at his first pro day, but still has a ways to go.
