John Williamson

LB | (6-1, 235, 4.95) | East Carolina
By Pro Football Weekly

Notes: Went to Fort Union Community College in 1997 and redshirted in '98 at East Carolina. Starting defensive end in '99 and outside linebacker in 2000 and '01. Had 32 tackles, one tackle for loss, one sack, four passes broken up and two interceptions in '99; 48-6-5½-6-2 in 2000; and 65-14-6½-2-1 in '01. In '02, started the first four games at outside linebacker and broke his arm, but he came back to start the last four games at inside 'backer. Had 48 stops, one tackle for loss and one pass broken up.

Positives: Instinctive player with good athleticism. Can change direction and flip his hips pretty well. Plays faster than he times, gets up the field and rushes the quarterback. Has a good feel in coverage and catches the ball well.

Negatives: DE-OLB tweener who lacks timed and sustained speed. Too small to play end and speed is a problem at outside linebacker. Natural player who does not do the extras when it comes to game preparation. Can be tough to coach because his attitude and intensity are up and down.

Summary: Needs to work harder and realize he is off scholarship and must earn his keep.
