David Diehl SELECTED BY MIAMI , ROUND 5, PICK 28, OVERALL PICK 160 OT | (6-5, 310, 5.28) | Illinois By Pro Football Weekly Notes: Redshirted in 1998 and had back surgery after the year. Played in six games in '99 and every game in 2000. Part-time starter at right guard and left tackle in '01. Named second-team All-Big Ten by the media and coaches after starting all 12 games last fall. Graduated in December '01 and is currently enrolled in master's program. Positives: Good size and size potential. Quick off the ball. Sets up quickly as a pass blocker and can move his feet and mirror. Has quickness, ability, balance and good athletic ability and can position and wall. Clearly well-coached on technique. Negatives: Has a weak hand punch and doesn't adjust well on the second level. Doesn't always finish or cover the outside edge in pass blocking. Plays off-balance at times and is too much of a waist-bender for offensive guard. More finesse than scouts would like. Needs to be more physical. Not a great run blocker. Struggles to get low and play with leverage inside. Can be more explosive.
