Bret Engemann QB | (6-3, 227, 5.0) | Brigham Young By Pro Football WeeklyNotes: Was a baseball and football standout in high school at Timpview High in Provo, Utah, where he was named the state's Player of the Year as a senior. Played in six games as a freshman in 1999, completing 9-of-15 passes for 58 yards. Completed 72-of-134 with three touchdowns and six interceptions in 2000, when he was limited because of a sprained knee and then underwent season-ending shoulder surgery. Redshirted in '01. Played in eight of 12 games in '02 and completed 119-of-215 passes for 1,334 yards with six touchdowns and eight interceptions. Did have a three-TD game vs. Syracuse Aug. 29. Decided to forgo his senior season and enter the 2003 draft. Positives: A strong-armed quarterback with decent touch. In the right system, has a chance to develop.Negatives: Will be a 24-year-old rookie who has been injury-prone. Regularly bird-dogs receivers and doesn't go through progressions naturally. Doesn't move well in the pocket and makes far too many mental mistakes.Summary: Should have stayed in school. Has some raw potential but needs far more reps than he will receive as a team's third-string quarterback a job that won't be easy for him to attain.* Player biographies are provided by Pro Football Weekly.
