RB | (5-11, 222, 4.56) | Alabama
By Pro Football WeeklyNotes: Was a prep All-American and two-time 4A Mr. Football in Tennessee before coming to Alabama in 1999. Played in 12 of 13 games but did not have a carry or reception. Used his injury redshirt in 2000 with a dislocated shoulder and torn anterior cruciate ligament that required surgery. Played in eight games in '01 and carried 77 times for 633 yards, including a 20-carry, 199-yard game against Auburn. Started six of 13 games in '02, after taking over for the injured Ahmaad Galloway (torn ACL). Beard carried 165-858-12 and caught five passes for 74 yards. Did not lift at the Combine, because of shoulder discomfort.Positives: A good north-south runner who will make and take contact and gets to the hole quickly. Flashes speed to get to the edge but has a consistent burst to and through the hole. Runs well in the open field and near the goal line. Seems to always make the right cut when reading open-field blocks.Negatives: Is inexperienced and may wear down if the past is any indication of how durable he is. Linebackers and safeties with top speed can beat him to the corner. Doesn't show much as a blocker or particularly as a receiver. Summary: Could become a decent player on the next level with improved durability, pass-catching and blocking.* Player biographies are provided by Pro Football Weekly.
