Chris Brown

SELECTED BY KANSAS CITY , ROUND 3, PICK 30, OVERALL PICK 93
RB | (6-2, 220, 4.55) | Colorado
By Pro Football Weekly

Notes: Fourth-year junior. Redshirted at Northwestern in 1999. Was recruited by Gary Barnett, who left NU before Brown enrolled. Brown spent 2000 at Fort Scott (Kan.) Community College. Came to Colorado in '01 and was part of three-man rotation at running back, carrying 190 times for 946 yards and 16 touchdowns with six receptions for 36 yards. Really dominated at the end of the year with 24-198-6 in the season finale vs. Nebraska and 33-182-3 in the Big 12 title game vs. Texas. May have rushed for more than 2,000 yards in 2002 if he did not miss the last two games with a bruised sternum suffered vs. Iowa State. As it was, finished the regular season with 275-1,744-18 rushing and five catches for 40 yards.

Positives: Big, strong, powerful runner who can pick and slide inside. Finishes runs and is very effective in goal-line and short-yardage situations. Has exceptional power and balance for an upright runner and some Eddie George-type qualities.

Negatives: Runs tall and exposed and takes so much punishment that injuries could be a problem. Also is exposed to big hits and will fumble the ball. Is not used much in the passing game. Lacks breakaway speed and great moves. Lanky.

Summary: A top-flight back in the Eddie George mold, but he does not get his pads down before impact quite as well as George does, which could make fumbles and injuries a problem.
