Derek Delmarter

FB | (6-1, 240, 4.7) | Jacksonville State
By Pro Football Weekly

Notes: Enrolled at Southern Mississippi in 1998 as an inside linebacker and redshirted. Played in every game for the Eagles in '99. Left Southern Miss prior to the 2000 season. Saw extensive action for Jacksonville as a tight end in '01, catching nine passes for 193 yards. Moved to fullback last spring. Started 11 games in '02 and ran eight times for 27 yards and caught 9-31, playing mostly at fullback, but was moved to TE/H-back position at the end of the year due to depth concerns. Married.

Positives: Pretty good all-around athlete with above-average hands. Willing blocker. Runs well and tries hard, is tough and smart. Loves the weight room. Can longsnap and worked on that area after the season. Played on all special-teams units. Mature.

Negatives: Not an overpowering blocker as a tight end and displays poor technique as a lead blocker. Runs below-average routes and is a step slow. Didn't really have a college position, and therefore isn't experienced enough to jump right in as a professional at any one position.

Summary: Will have to improve as a long-snapper to stick in the NFL.
