James Lynch

FB | (5-11, 266, 4.89) | Maryland
By Pro Football Weekly

Notes: Made himself eligible for the draft as a third-year junior. Appeared in eight games as a freshman in 2000 as a reserve fullback and rushed four times for six yards and caught two passes, including a TD catch in overtime vs. North Carolina State. Played in all 12 games and started eight in '01, rushing for 16-130-2 without losing yardage on a carry and catching 7-53. As a junior in '02, rushed 11-30-1 and caught 7-63.

Positives: A big, physical blocker who is capable of dominating at the point of attack. Has above-average size and quickness, catches the ball well and is a tough tackle in space because he can run over defensive backs and has some make-you-miss ability. Very powerful as a short-yardage and goal-line runner. Added a lot of muscle to his frame in '02.

Negatives: Loses leverage at times because he plays erect. Doesn't finish every block and often stops churning his feet upon contact; needs to stick to defenders more consistently. Doesn't change directions or adjust as a blocker on the move very well. Speed is OK, but he's not a threat because he can't run away from anyone. Has short arms and average-sized hands. Has to learn to use his size and strength as an advantage.

Summary: Lynch could get a sniff in the late rounds, but figures to be a camp invite.
