BRUINS AND CANADIENS MEET FOR THE 700TH TIME

The Canadiens beat the Bruins, 2-1, via a shootout in the 700th regular-season game between the clubs. It's the second-highest game total for any rivalry in NHL history, topped by only the Red Wings and Blackhawks, who've played each other 704 times in the regular season. The first Canadiens-Bruins game took place on Dec. 8, 1924 in Boston and Montreal pulled out a come from behind 4-3 victory on a pair of third-period goals by Aurel Joliat. The Bruins goaltender on Thursday night was last season's Vezina Trophy winner, Tim Thomas. The winning goaltender in the first Canadiens-Bruins game in 1924 was Georges Vezina.
