BLUES PREVAIL IN A SHOOTOUT

It was a shooting gallery in more ways than one when the Red Wings played the Blues on Tuesday night. St. Louis beat Detroit in a shootout after the teams played to a 3-3 deadlock, with the Blues outshooting the Red Wings 45-42 through regulation time and overtime. It was only the third NHL game this season in which both teams had at least 40 shots on goals. The previous two such games also required a shootout to determine a winner: Florida over the Islanders on November 14 and New Jersey over the Rangers on January 12. There were five double-40 games in the NHL last season and four of those five games went to a shootout.
