THE BOTTOM LINE

Last time out, the Sharks contended for first overall in the West, right down to the final days of the season. They settled for second, but they want No. 1 this time around.

Offense: The Sharks are fast, strong, deep and talented, especially on the attack, and are decent on the power play. They've lost veterans Vincent Damphousse (retirement), Curtis Brown, Mike Rathje and others to free agency, but have young talent in the wings.
