Jagr replaces departed Messier as Rangers captain

NEW YORK -- Jaromir Jagr claimed the New York Rangers' franchise single-season record for goals and points in 2005-06. Now he has claimed the team captaincy.

The Rangers on Thursday filled the vacancy created by the retirement of Mark Messier, naming Jagr the 24th captain in team history.
