Islanders' Sillinger to have hip surgery, sidelined for season

NEWARK, N.J. -- New York Islanders center Mike Sillinger will undergo season-ending hip surgery within the next week.

Sillinger, 36, hasn't played since Feb. 5, when he was forced out of the lineup by a nagging hip injury. He is in the second season of a three-year deal that pays him $2.2 million this season and $2.3 million for 2008-09.

The surgery will be performed in Colorado by the doctor who operated on Islanders goalie Rick DiPietro last summer, the team said ...
