ESPN hockey analyst Barry Melrose is returning to coaching for the first time since being fired by the Los Angeles Kings nine years ago.

So what if it's for one game in the minors?

Melrose, who is part of an ownership group that bought the United Hockey League's Adirondack IceHawks last week, will be behind the bench Friday when Adirondack plays the Richmond Riverdogs.

Melrose was dismissed by the Kings during the 1994-95 season.

Adirondack fired coach Bryan Wells on Thursday. The IceHawks will officially name a new head coach on Monday.
