LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Kings, who are battling for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference, have their No. 1 goaltender back for the stretch drive.

The Kings activated Roman Cechmanek from the injured list and assigned goaltender Milan Hnilicka to Manchester of the American Hockey League.

Cechmanek missed the last 12 games with a groin injury. He has played in 44 contests for Los Angeles this season, posting an 18-16-6 record with a 2.43 goals-against average and five shutouts.

The Kings went 6-4-2 without Cechmanek and are ninth in the West, one point behind Nashville and two in back of St. Louis. Cristobal Huet started nine games in Cechmanek's absence.

Hnilicka appeared in only two games for Los Angeles this season, going 0-1-0 with a 3.75 goals-against.
