U.S. team will add two before Saturday
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Scott Gomez withdrew Thursday from the U.S. team that will play in the world hockey championships in the Czech Republic.
The forward was added to the roster earlier this week, just days after the New Jersey Devils were eliminated from the Stanley Cup playoffs, but he pulled out because of personal reasons, USA Hockey said Thursday.
Two more players will be added to the roster before the United States plays its first game on Saturday against Finland in Ostrave, Czech Republic.
The tournament, which runs until May 9, will help determine which eight countries earn automatic berths in the 2006 Olympics in Torino, Italy.
