American Dan Jansen, who won the 1,000-meter speedskating event at the 1994 Winter Games in Lillehammer, was hired by the Chicago Blackhawks to be their skating coach.

"We are excited to have Dan on board," Blackhawks general manager Dale Tallon said. "Not only is he a world class athlete, he's a world class person. He will bring a fresh, innovative approach to helping our players improve their skating skills."

Jansen was a member of four United States Olympic teams (1984, 1988, 1992, 1994) and was inducted into the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame in 2004.

Jansen is an eight-time world-record holder in the 500-meter and 1000-meter speedskating events, and recorded 46 World Cup wins and more than 75 World Cup medals over his career.
