PHOENIX -- Phoenix Coyotes defenseman Denis Gauthier apparently will be out of action until mid-November with a broken finger.

According to a report in The Arizona Republic, Gauthier likely will miss one month after fracturing the pinky finger on his right hand in Saturday's 2-0 loss to the Detroit Red Wings.

Gauthier, who suffered the injury upon colliding with Red Wings right wing Brendan Shanahan along the boards, did not play in the Coyotes' 2-0 victory over Calgary on Monday. He is expected to undergo surgery.

The 29-year-old Gauthier, who was a first-round pick of the Flames in 1995 and was on their Western Conference championship team in 2003-04, has one goal in six games with Phoenix this season. He had 13 goals and 45 assists in 384 career games with Calgary.
