Capitals activate D Majesky

11/11/2005 - NHL

Washington Capitals: The team activated defenseman Ivan Majesky and recalled goaltender Frederic Cassivi for Friday's game against New Jersey.

Majesky was signed as a free agent in August but missed training camp and the first 15 games of the season with a knee injury.

Cassivi was recalled from AHL Hershey because of an injury to Olaf Kolzig and started against the Devils.

Buffalo Sabres: Defenseman Toni Lydman was activated from the injured list before Buffalo took on the Maple Leafs.

Lydman hadn't played since injuring his groin against the Devils on Oct. 28. He sat out five games.

Lydman, who leads the team in average ice time at 21 minutes, 27 seconds per game, has one goal and five points in 10 games this season. He was acquired by the Sabres for a 2006 third-round pick in August. He has 20 goals and 98 points in his five-year NHL career.

The news wasn't as good for fellow defenseman Jay McKee, who remained sidelined because of a bruised foot that has forced him to miss three games.

Right winger Maxim Afinogenov also sat out Friday, the first game he missed this season, because of bruised ribs. He is day-to-day.

St. Louis Blues: Goalie Curtis Sanford was recalled from the Blues' AHL affiliate, the Peoria Rivermen; defenseman Jeff Woywitka was assigned to Peoria.
