Marchant, signed as a free agent in 2003, was put on waivers Wednesday. Marchant had only 12 goals and 31 assists in 95 games for Columbus. He is signed through the 2008-2009 season at around $2.5
million per year.
The move was made because the Blue Jackets need to
clear space under the NHL salary cap after they acquired center
Sergei Fedorov and a fifth-round pick in the 2006 draft from
Anaheim on Tuesday.
Picard was the Blue Jackets' first pick, eighth overall, in the 2004 entry draft and is playing in his first professional season.
Simon has four goals and five assists in 13 games at Syracuse. He has appeared in 68 career NHL games with the Atlanta Thrashers.
Rupp was acquired by the Blue Jackets from Phoenix last month and has appeared in 12 games with Columbus this season. Balastik has played in 16 games this season split between the Blue Jackets and Syracuse.
