DiPietro day-to-day with knee sprain
DiPietro, recently selected to the U.S. Olympic team, was injured Friday night at Ottawa when he fell to the ice during a scramble that led to Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson's tying goal at 6:29 of the first period.
Garth Snow replaced DiPietro, who needed help from his teammates to get to his feet and skate off. The injury appeared to be serious at first, but by the time the game was over DiPietro wasn't favoring either leg.
DiPietro faced six shots in New York's 4-3 loss. He is 13-12-2 record with a 3.45 goals-against average.
Islanders defenseman Alexei Zhitnik, who bruised his tailbone against the Senators, will likely return to the lineup when New York hosts Tampa Bay on Monday night.
Zhitnik slid backward into the boards 2:07 into the second period and was unable to brace for the impact.
