Numbers retired for three former Whalers
HARTFORD, Conn. -- Three former Hartford Whalers were honored before Friday's Portland Pirates-Wolfpack game in Hartford.
The numbers of Ron Francis, Kevin Dineen and Ulf Samuelsson were raised to the rafters, eight years after the Whalers left town to become the Carolina Hurricanes. Dineen now coaches the Portland Pirates, and Samuelsson is an assistant coach for the Wolf Pack.
Francis (10), Dineen (11) and Samuelsson (5) saw banners with their numbers raised to the rafters as Connecticut Gov. M. Jodi Rell and Hartford Mayor Eddie A. Perez looked on.
