Caps sign '03 draft pick Werner to two-year deal

WASHINGTON -- The Washington Capitals signed 2003 draft pick Stephen Werner to a two-year contract on Tuesday.

The 21-year-old right winger had 116 points in 143 games for Massachusetts, making him the fourth-leading scorer in school history. He led the team in goals with 13 this season.

The third-round pick played on the gold medal U.S. team at the 2004 world junior championship.

The Capitals also recalled forward Jakub Klepis from AHL Hershey and assigned forwards Kris Beech and Boyd Gordon to the Bears.
