Report: Stars' Modano probable for Tuesday's game
Dallas captain Mike Modano will try to play in the Stars' game against the Columbus Blue Jackets Tuesday night, the Dallas Morning News reports. Modano will test the knee one last time Tuesday morning, and if all goes well, he will play.
"I expect to play, but we have to make sure," Modano told the newspaper. "So right now, I'm officially probable."
Modano got tangled up with Anaheim forward Jonathan Hedstrom near the Stars' bench during Dallas' game against the Mighty Ducks last Thursday. After attempting to play the puck, Modano crumpled to the ice with 7:12 left in the second period, clutching his left knee and writhing in pain. The Stars' captain is a six-time All-Star who tops the franchise list in every major offensive category.
Modano has missed two games since the April 6 incident.
Modano told the Morning News that he could have played in both games he missed, but at this point in the season the team preferred that he rest the knee.
"If it was the playoffs, I would have played," he said. "But it makes sense to rest now and make sure there's no soreness at all."
Dallas has clinched the Pacific Division title and, with 107 points, sewn up the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference.
