Thrashers bring back Mellanby for 2006-07 season

ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Thrashers re-signed right winger
Scott Mellanby for the 2006-07 season on Saturday.

The 40-year-old Mellanby was selected team captain last year.

"Scott is a tremendous leader who will continue to play an
important role on our club next season," general manager Don
Waddell said.

"Over the course of his career, including his time in Atlanta,
he has proven himself as a high-character individual who knows what
it takes to be successful on and off the ice. His dedication and
talent will contribute to helping us reach the playoffs."

Mellanby ranked eighth on the team with 34 points (12 goals, 22
assists) in 71 games last season, his 20th in the NHL.

Mellanby, a native of Montreal, has 804 career points (352
goals, 452 assists) with Philadelphia, Edmonton, Florida, St. Louis
and Atlanta.

He served as Florida's team captain from 1997-2001 and remains
Florida's all-time leader with 157 goals, 66 power-play tallies and
354 points.
