MONTREAL -- The Montreal Canadiens re-signed defenseman Francis Bouillon to a $5.63 million, three-year contract Saturday.

Bouillon, who was an unrestricted free agent, will make $1.875 million a season after posting career highs in assists (19) and points (22) with Montreal last season.

"Francis Bouillon is a key element of our defensive squad," Canadiens general manager Bob Gainey said in a statement. "[He is] very well respected by his teammates and admired by our fans, he is a player who showed a great deal of perseverance since his debut in the NHL.

"We are very happy that he has committed to remain with our organization for years to come."

Bouillon, who was claimed off waivers from Nashville in October 2002, has 11 goals and 60 assists in 295 games with the Predators and Canadiens.
