Thrashers sign centers Rucchin, Metropolit
ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Thrashers signed unrestricted free-agent centers Steve Rucchin and Glen Metropolit on Monday.

Rucchin, 34, has recorded 166 goals and 302 assists in 688 NHL games with Anaheim and the New York Rangers. He has reached at least 50 points in five of his 11 seasons.
The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Rucchin played in 72 games for the Rangers last season -- his only one in New York -- notching 13 goals and 23 assists. After being selected by Anaheim in the 1994 NHL supplemental draft, Rucchin spent 10 seasons with the Ducks. He had 153 goals and 279 assists before joining the Rangers.
Metropolit, 32, led Lugano to the Swiss National League Championship last season with nine goals and 18 assists in 17 playoff games. During the regular season, he led the league with 39 assists and 63 points in 44 games.
He had 10 goals and 37 assists in 103 NHL games over parts of four seasons with Washington and Tampa Bay. Metropolit played one game with the Atlanta Knights of the ECHL during the 1995-96 season.
