Sharks center awarded $700,000 in arbitration

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- San Jose Sharks center Mark Smith was awarded a one-year contract worth $700,000 by an arbitrator Monday.
Smith, 28, is coming off his best season, setting career highs in goals (nine), assists (15), points (24) and games played (80). He also led the team in faceoff percentage (52).
A 1997 ninth-round pick of the New York Islanders, Smith has tallied 19 goals and 34 assists in 282 career games.
