NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Nashville Predators agreed to terms Thursday with defenseman Dan Hamhuis on a four-year contract worth $8 million.

The 23-year-old defenseman had not been in training camp with the Predators, but negotiations resumed earlier this week. He will earn $1.5 million this season, $1.75 million in 2007-08, $2.25 million in 2008-09 and $2.5 million in 2009-10.

Hamhuis led the Predators in average ice time last season and was one of only two to play in all 82 games. He ranked second with a plus-11 rating and had career-highs in assists (31) and points (38).

The 6-foot-1, 200-pound defenseman also led Team Canada's defensemen in scoring at the 2006 World Championships with one goal and four assists.

He was the Predators' 12th pick overall in the 2001 entry draft. He has 14 goals and 50 assists in 162 games in his first three seasons.
