When Teppo Numminen hit the ice Monday night, he made a little history.
The 38-year-old Buffalo Sabres defenseman played his 1,252nd game, the most by a European-trained player. Numminen surpassed Jari Kurri, who played in 1,251 regular-season when he retired in 1998 after 17 NHL seasons.
Numminen, who made his NHL debut with the Winnipeg Jets in 1988, is playing in his 18th NHL season. After stints with the Jets, Coyotes and Stars, he is in his second season with the Sabres and has career totals of 113 goals and 478 assists.
