Phoenix Coyotes center Jeremy Roenick did not attend Saturday's game against the Anaheim Ducks because of a "personal family illness."

According to a report in the Arizona Republic, Roenick did not attend because of an undisclosed illness to his teenage daughter Brandi.

Roenick's absence was approved by general manager Mike Barnett and coach Wayne Gretzky, unlike his early departure from the arena in Vancouver on Dec. 12 after he was scratched from the lineup.

Gretzky told the newspaper he does not expect Roenick to accompany the team on its next trip, which begins Tuesday at Los Angeles.

"The most important thing is the health of his child," Gretzky said. "That's more important than what we've got going on right now."
