Kings place Thornton on IR with wrist injury

LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Kings had a busy day
Thursday, placing left wing Scott Thornton on injured reserve
and recalling right wing Konstantin Pushkarev from Manchester of
the American Hockey League.

Los Angeles also assigned defenseman Mike Weaver to the Monarchs
for conditioning purposes.

Thornton suffered a wrist injury in a 7-4 victory over Edmonton on Dec/ 28 and has missed the Kings' last three games. In 38 contests this season, his first with Los Angeles, the 35-year-old has registered five goals, four assists and 60 penalty minutes.

Drafted third overall by Toronto in 1989, Thornton has collected 137 goals and 136 assists in 874 career games with the Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers, Montreal Canadiens, Dallas Stars, San
Jose Sharks and Kings.

Pushkarev made his NHL debut with Los Angeles last season, recording an assist in his only appearance. The 21-year-old native of Kazakhstan, who was a second-round pick in 2003, has scored four goals and 15 points in 29 games with Manchester this season.

Weaver has not appeared in a game for the Kings since Dec. 7, sitting out the last 12. In 12 games this season, the 28-year-old has two assists and two penalty minutes.
