High-scoring Avs defenseman Liles to miss four weeks
DENVER -- The Colorado Avalanche will be without their best offensive defenseman for approximately four weeks.
John-Michael Liles suffered a broken left foot in the first period of Saturday's 2-1 shootout win at Minnesota.
The 26-year-old Liles ranks fourth among NHL defensemen in goals with 10 and is tied for 12th in scoring with 29 points. He is the first defenseman to score 10 or more goals in each of his first three seasons since Steve Duchesne from 1986-87 to 1988-89.
An eighth-round pick in 2000, Liles played for the United States in the Olympics last February, recording two assists in six games. He also represented Team USA at the 2005 World Championships and the 2004 World Cup of Hockey.
Last season, Liles recorded 14 goals and 35 assists for the Avalanche.
