Rangers sign veteran defenseman Strudwick

NEW YORK -- With defensemen Fedor Tyutin and Karel Rachunek both out with knee injuries, the New York Rangers signed veteran defenseman
Jason Strudwick on Monday.

The 31-year-old Edmonton native played with HC Lugano of the
Swiss League this season, registering two goals, three assists and
28 penalty minutes in 34 games.

After clearing waivers at noon, he was inserted into the
Rangers' lineup Monday night against Pittsburgh. He was paired with
defense partner Paul Mara. Strudwick is eligible to play the final
10 regular-season games, but can't be on the postseason roster
should New York reach the playoffs.

Last season, Strudwick skated in 65 games with the Rangers,
tallying three goals, four assists and 66 penalty minutes. He
signed with the Rangers as a free agent after the 2003-04 season.

He appeared in 428 career NHL games with the Chicago Blackhawks,
New York Islanders, Vancouver Canucks and Rangers, registering 10
goals, 26 assists and 636 penalty minutes.
