CALGARY, Alberta -- The Calgary Flames acquired defenseman Jim Vandermeer from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for a 2009 third-round draft pick on Wednesday.

Vandermeer has three goals and 15 assists and 71 penalty minutes in 54 games this season with Chicago and Philadelphia. He has 17 goals and 49 assists in 246 games with the Blackhawks and Flyers.

The 27-year-old makes $1.225 million this season, and will become an unrestricted free agent July 1.

The move came as the NHL's GM meetings wrapped up Wednesday.
