Chicago Blackhawks defenseman James Wisnieswki was suspended one game without pay by the NHL for an illegal hit Tuesday in a loss to the Detroit Red Wings.

Wisniewski received a match penalty for cross-checking forward Mikael Samuelsson of the Wings in the face. His one-game suspension means he will not play Wednesday against Carolina. He will give up $3,475.93 in salary.

Wisniewski has 21 points this season including six goals.
