Stuart re-signs with Red Wings for $3.75M per season

The Detroit Red Wings re-signed free-agent defenseman Brad Stuart on Tuesday.

ESPN.com's Scott Burnside confirmed the deal is worth $3.75 million annually over four years. TSN of Canada first reported the deal.

Stuart, who enjoyed a strong playoffs and terrific Stanley Cup finals series for the champion Red Wings, was rumored to be headed back to the West Coast. Detroit general manager Ken Holland, however, convinced him to stay.

Stuart played most of the playoffs with Niklas Kronwall and the pair represent a nice alternative to the team's top pairing of Brian Rafalski and Nicklas Lidstrom.

All four will return next year, giving the Wings as solid a top-four defensive lineup as there is in the NHL.
