DiPietro to return vs. Stars
The long wait is over for New York Islanders fans.
Goaltender Rick DiPietro will return Friday night as the Islanders take on the Stars in Dallas.
DiPietro, 28, had surgery on both hips and both knees in the past two years. He last played an NHL game on Jan. 2, 2009, and made only five appearances with the Islanders last season.
DiPietro traveled with the team and was in the lineup as Dwayne Roloson's backup Wednesday night against the Colorado Avalanche. He also played four games with the Isles' AHL farm team in Bridgeport before joining the team.
